Lockdown three point zero is in full swing and I'm sure I'm not the only one missing the gym!
It's hard to get motivated when you socialise at the gym and feel held accountable by those around you. In comparison
Lockdown feels isolating, confining and slightly impossible. Is there light at the end of the tunnel?
There is! Of course there is and theres a reason we're staying home! It's to protect one another and in that regard we are not alone.
We are all in this together (cheesy).
The ability to go online and connect with friends is awesome during these times. I know It's not the same but it does help to be able to
engage with people you miss in some way. As for fitness enthusiasts joining an online challenge can help you to feel more accountable
and motivated. Online classes, groups, challenges or just posting on social media to connect with like minded followers helps. I've found the latter
quite helpful and once I started posting to keep myself accountable I do feel like I'm getting into the swing of this "working out at home".
A yoga challenge is something I have started up too as I'm a lot more sedentary (sat here at my computer typing this out! hah) so moving to
improve mobility and combat stiffness it going to be beneficial. Especially when I can get back into the gym when things are a bit more "normal".
One thing that is really difficult though and my heart goes out to all the independent gym owners, PTs and coaches out there! Is the affect these
Lockdowns have had on the fitness industry and our careers! Everything feels pretty uncertain and we don't know when the gyms will be closed
and then when they will reopen. It really is all up in the air and so we have all had to adapt! For a lot of us this is our full time job especially those
who own gyms and when it's all taken away it is incredibly hard. For instance independent gyms will still need to pay rent to their landlords and
so there is a lot of pressure to make ends meet, pay rent and create an alternative income. A lot of other industries have been hit in a similar way
I'm just speaking from the point of view of a Coach/PT. Lets hope we can all adapt successfully and we make it! My heart really does go out to you
all and fingers crossed some normality comes about soon.
Sending love,
Over and Out
